Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk is a Rector of the Silesian University of Technology in the 2020-2024 term. He was also a Rector in the years 2016-2020.
He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Machine Design at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. In 1994, he defended his doctoral dissertation with honors in the discipline of construction and operation of machines, and in 2002 he also defended his habilitation In 2007, the President of the Republic of Poland awarded him the title of professor in the field of technical sciences.
In 2008, he was appointed by the Minister of the Treasury to the Scientific Council of the Research and Development Center for Mechanical Devices OBRUM in Gliwice, where he was technical director from 2009, and after reorganization, development director (until 2011).
He was one of the initiators of the establishment of the Center for Advanced Security and Defense Technologies at the Silesian University of Technology, which he headed in 2014-2015. His main research areas are machine dynamics, mechatronics and the design of military vehicles.
For achievements in the field of science, he received, among others an individual award of the Minister of National Education (1995), a prestigious award of the IV Department of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2003), a team award of the Minister of National Education and Sport (2005).
